Like other organizations, BJFL is dependent on volunteers. It takes a lot of teamwork to create, organize and staff a quality program for our kids to participate in. We cannot do this without your help. We ask that you please take time to volunteer this year in any way that you can.
To ensure the safety of our children, we will require all Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Team Moms, Board Members and other who have direct contact with players to pass a background check. Each volunteer must complete a BJFL Volunteer Application form. Along with the form, you will also need to submit a photocopy of your Indiana drivers license or another valid government identification card that includes your photo.
Football Clinic:
As in past years, Coach Comer and the high school will be offering a summer football clinic. This year the clinic will be held July 19 – 22 from 8:30 to 10:00 am. Registration for the clinic is available through the BJFL online registration system as well.
Cheerleading:
The board of directors has made the difficult decision not to continue the BJFL cheerleading program. There were a number of factors that led to this decision. Chief among them was the realization that this was not a core competency of our group. Cheerleading is a sport in and of itself and a number of other outlets have sprung up in recent years to provide instruction in this area. While we had some wonderful people work on the program over the years, recently we have not been able to provide the support or expertise in this area that has come to be expected. For this reason, we have decided to leave it to others in the community who are more qualified.
Tackle Equipment Issue:
Although we know that tackle equipment issue will occur in late June and early July, the exact dates have not been set yet. We will send out additional information on this as it become available.
League Draft Dates:
As outlined in our rules of play, teams in minor and major tackle will be selected by a draft. Draft evaluations will be held in early July and the draft will occur following evaluations in late July. All players, flag and tackle, will be notified of their team and coach by July 27.
First Practice and Opening Day:
Practice for all leagues may begin on July 26 and opening day is scheduled for August 14.
Please watch our website for additional announcements on the 2010 season. We look forward to a fun and successful year!
